Polyester Filter Bag

Polyester Filter Bag

What is a Polyester Filter Bag?

Polyester filter bags are among the most widely used options in industrial filtration solutions. Often referred to as felt-type needled polyester fabric, these bags are safely used in many areas such as cement, metal processing, wood, and chemical industry with advantages such as high mechanical strength, economic cost, and chemical resistance.

Providing good filtration performance, reducing operating costs, and supporting process continuity with its long-lasting structure makes polyester bags indispensable.

How Does the Production Process Work?

Polyester filter bag production is a technical process requiring attention and precision. In the first step, polyester fibers are converted into a densely woven, felt-like surface using the needling method. This surface is then:

  • Coated with water and oil repellent (hydrophobic and oleophobic) chemicals to make it resistant to external factors.

  • One surface is smoothed by applying calendering (glazing) process. This prevents dust adhesion and facilitates cleaning.

After surface treatments are completed, the fabric is cut to specific dimensions as needed. Then:

  • It is formed into bag shape with strong chain stitch machines.

  • The bottom is closed with a reinforced flap to increase durability.

  • An elastic or snap-on ring that ensures tight fitting to the filter cage is integrated into the top section.

In the final stage, products are cleaned, pass quality control processes, and are packaged ready for shipment.

Durability and Technical Compatibility

Polyester filter bags can be produced in different grammages according to system requirements. Among the most commonly used options are:

  • 400 g/m²

  • 500 g/m²

  • 525 g/m²

  • 550 g/m²

  • 600 g/m².

Thanks to this diversity, the most suitable filter bag can be easily selected according to process requirements such as air flow, dust load, and operating temperature.

Polyester bags, which provide high resistance to abrasion, tensile stress, and mechanical strain, are particularly preferred in heavily dusty and demanding environments.

When selecting polyester bags, the following factors must be carefully considered:

  • Distance between dust source and filter unit

  • System air volume and pressure values

  • Type, density, and particle size of dust

  • Acid, solvent, or oxidant exposure

  • Operating temperature and humidity ratio

Polyester, which provides resistance up to 150°C, is ideal for many applications. However, if higher temperatures are involved, it may be necessary to turn to advanced filter materials such as Nomex (meta-aramid) or P84.

Use in Chemical Applications

Polyester filter bags can be safely used in many chemical processes. Thanks to their hydrophobic and smooth surface, they prevent the accumulation of oily or humid dust. This feature:

  • Increases filtration efficiency,

  • Shortens cleaning time,

  • Extends bag life.

In applications exposed to acidic, solvent-containing, or oxidizing substances, special coatings can be preferred according to system temperature and chemical concentration.

Why Should It Be Preferred?

The main reasons for preferring polyester filter bags are:

  • High mechanical strength for long-term use

  • Cost-effective solution alternative

  • Wide grammage selection for adaptation to different processes

  • Water and oil repellent surface with less clogging

  • Low maintenance requirement and energy efficiency

Thanks to these advantages, polyester filter bags provide both efficiency and cost savings to businesses.

Main Sectors Where Polyester Filter Bags Are Used

Polyester filter bags are widely used in the following sectors thanks to their resistance to heat and chemicals:

  • Iron-steel production

  • Cement and lime facilities

  • Wood, MDF, and sawdust collection systems

  • Aluminum and non-ferrous metal processing

  • Foundries and mold shops

  • Chemical production facilities

  • Paper and cellulose industry

  • Fertilizer and agricultural chemical production areas

In these sectors, dust holding capacity as well as thermal and chemical resistance are among the important criteria that determine the effectiveness of filter bags.
